It is also not very polished (the elf models in particular looked poor) and so combining these issues it is easy to understand why the game has received a lot of criticism. I played the entire game on Steam Deck which was acceptable (at 30fps), but only just! The cutscenes ran quite choppy but were still very enjoyable and I encountered only one bug, which lost me about 5 minutes of progress.įor me the game’s biggest issue is that the ideal audience is someone who is a) a big fan of LOTR and b) interested in playing stealth games which is quite a narrow target. Having a closer look inside Mordor, especially in relative peacetime was a real treat that I had not expected to enjoy so much. The game’s greatest strength is its story which sits very nicely alongside The Hobbit and LOTR, in contrast to other Middle Earth games, whose storylines have always felt like they stretched the lore a bit too much. As a Lord of the Rings fan and a keen gamer, I really enjoyed Gollum, despite not being a fan of stealth games.
